Berkeley Platte
Berkeley Platte was born in Hollywood, Florida on the day the Berlin Wall fell. He lived in south Florida until he was six, when his family moved to Camden, South Carolina. It is here where his life-long obsession with music began. Berkeley started playing piano and singing in the church choir when he was eight, and, upon being exposed to the music of Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin when he was 14, took up the guitar as well. In high school, Berkeley gigged in the surrounding area with the local band 9 Ways to Sunday, taught guitar lessons, and recorded with Dick Goodwin, head of Composition at the University of South Carolina. Then, in 2008, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee to study Commercial Music at Belmont University. There he would be trained in a wide array of genres, techniques, and instruments. At Belmont, he played for several different artists and groups. Last summer, Berkeley lived in Athens, Georgia, where he sang and played solo acoustic sets in various bars downtown and played at the annual music festival, Athfest. Soon after, he was recruited by his college friend, Brian Jones, to audition to play for Kate McRae. Berkeley continues to attend Belmont University and perform as the lead guitarist for Kate McRae and Texas Medicine.
